Donald Primack was born in Los Angeles and has spent almost his entire life in the San Fernando Valley area. He graduated from California State University at Northridge (CSUN) with a bachelor’s degree and also has a Master of Public Health degree from CSUN. He attended the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry. While in dental school he became interested in headaches and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems.At that time, not a great deal of knowledge or information was available in the field of temporomandibular joint disorders, and a few years after graduating he was one of the first dentists to complete a residency program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) under the direction of two of the pioneers in the field, William Solberg, DDS, and Glenn Clark, DDS, MS. A few years later he was invited to teach at UCLA and has continued to do so for almost twenty five years. For the past fifteen years he has taught in the residency program in Orofacial Pain. Dr. Primack is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He is an examiner for the American Board of Orofacial Pain and a past member of the Board of Directors of that organization. Dr. Primack is involved in several professional organizations, and is currently Treasurer of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and past Program Chairman of their annual conference. He will be president of the AAOP in 2011. He is also the co-program chairman of the Headache Cooperative of the Pacific, which is a group of physicians, dentists, psychologists and basic science researchers dedicated to the study and relief of headache. He has authored several articles on TMD and headache and is also the principal author of the five brochures for the AAOP. He continues to pursue his interest in headache, head pain and TM joint problems and lectures and attends conferences frequently. Treating Head Pain and TMD As a specialist trained in the emerging field of Orofacial Pain, Dr. Primack is uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat all types of head pain including neurovascular pain (migraine, cluster, and other related headaches), neuropathic pain (trigeminal neuralgia and similar pains), and musculoskeletal pain. He approaches the treatment of these disorders with the most conservative methods possible. Dr. Primack is also interested and knowledgeable in the treatment of snoring and sleep disordered breathing-like obstructive sleep apnea. |
